Terracotta Tiles

Our hand-painted terracotta sample tiles arrived from the US yesterday. I fell in love with these beautiful tiles when I first laid eyes on this photo on Houzz. Their uneven and non-uniform texture and pattern just drew me in. I had never seen anything like it and I dreamt of having these tiles as the splashback in our new kitchen.

My dream kitchen

I trawled every single website and contacted every single tile supplier I could find in Adelaide. Even the place where we finally bought our french patern travertine tiles from could not source this tile for us. I was shattered as I had my heart set on these tiles. Finally, I decided to contact the tile company in the US that supplied the tiles for this project. The good thing with the Houzz website is that they list all the suppliers and companies who are involved in the project that is featured in a photograph. I managed to contact the people at Cabochon Surfaces & Fixtures, who supplied the tiles for this project. I first got in contact with Deena via their Facebook page. She was very prompt with her replies and I decided to take the plunge and order some sample tiles. Freighting the entire order for the splashback from the US was obviously not going to be a cheap exercise but I have not been able to find any other tile that is anywhere close to this terracotta tile. I figured if I order the sample and see it in person, maybe I won't find it as beautiful and then I can move on to picking something else instead. So I ordered 3 sample tiles, one in Negev for the scroll work, Oxford for accent, Off White background, another in Late for the scroll work, Java for accent, Vanilla background and Gray for school work, Charcoal for accent, Salvia background.

The sample tiles arrived yesterday. They were well-packed in a box but the box did showed some wear, indicating that they have been thrown around. The lighter tile had cracked in transit, but nothing some masking tape couldn't fix for the time being.

The tiles are beautiful and I am even more in love. Still stewing on whether I can justify the air freight cost but honestlly, where else can I find tiles such as these?

On a separate note, hubby spent the whole morning disconnecting and taking apart an old solar heater in the roof. Now we have some salvage copper that we need to sell too. But at least the roof space is now empty.
