With very limited time left before the builder had to leave for his trip overseas, he finally got the plumber to come back to fix the incorrect placement of the water inlet pipes in the family bathroom for our floor-mounted taps. I stood there watching whiel they tried to fix the mistake. First they jack-hammered the concrete floor to expose the copper piping. Then they attempted to solder the copper end of the taps to the copper piping.

I was very annoyed when the builder and the plumber asked me to decide on the height of the floor-mounted taps without giving me any time to gauge the height of the bath on the finished floor level. I had to call hubby (who was at work) to get back home as between the builder and the plumber, they were almost harassing me to make a quick decision. On top of that, the plumber almost cut the floor-mounted tap at the wrong end of the piping. This was after he had been given clear, printed manufacturer's instructions on how to install the tap. I had to insist that he stop work and examine the installation instructions before proceeding. And I was the one who noticed that he was about to cut the pipes at the wrong end.

Dodgy plumbing work

Needless to say, I was definitely not impressed with the work done. And after a full day's work, the plumber left before I could check the work that was done. I went into the family bathroom to find that the two floor-mounted portion of the taps were not level with each other, and were not in line with each other. There was no way the tap could be installed level with the way the pipes have been installed. I was furious!!! The builder was still on site and I had some very curt and stern words for him, and insisted that he get the plumber back on site tomorrow to fix the dodgy work. What annoyed me even further was how the builder tried to brush off my concerns about the pipes not being level, claiming that he checked that the pipes were level with the plumbers as they were soldering the pipes. He said that I was being fussy. It was only after I insisted that he held a level to the pipework, that he finally had to admit that the work had to be redone because 'surprisingly' the pipes were not level!!!!!!!!

At least the rendering work was on track. The builder had forgotten to brick up the old doorway leading to the kitchen, so he left the work to the renderer. By the end of the day, he had finished the work in the master bedroom, and the bricking work for the old kitchen door had begun.

Later in the evening, hubby and I went round the new extension area with our tape measure to check that the builder had installed wooden battens for the walls sconces as we requested. With everything that has happened so far, we figured we would have to check every single measurement to ensure everything was placed in the positions we had specified. Thankfully, they looked like they were in order.
