Of Lanterns And Doors

After an unsuccessful attempt at sourcing brass lanterns for our kitchen on French eBay, I had just about given up the search. Finding three identical brass lanterns to go in our kitchen seemed more difficult than looking for a needle in a haystack. After months of trawling through French eBay, sometimes on a daily basis, I stopped trying. Which was of course when hubby beat me to it. And he only used normal eBay. He found a seller who had a pair of brass lanterns in the Louis XV style that we were looking for. He decided to email the seller to see if on the off-chance, there was a third identical lantern. The response was disappointing - he only had the pair.
And then we received a surprise email. The seller managed to find a third identical lantern and wanted to know if we were still interested? Were we still interested? We got the measuring tape out quick smart and using little cardboard cutouts, did a mock placement of the lanterns on the floor. It looked like it would work very well for us.

Hubby was emailing the seller right away. We wanted those lanterns!!! It was an anxious wait for the seller to cancel the auction and for the eBay invoice to come through as the auction for the pair was still live. The seller is in Belgium so there was the time zone difference. We had lost out on another pair previous on eBay due to another buyer buying one of the lanterns as I was double-checking dimensions and measurements. We both breathed a huge sigh of relief when the invoice came through and the auction was terminated. Prompt payment was made and now we wait for the lanterns to arrive. The photos of them are gorgeous and we have high hopes.

On the reno front, our custom-made western red cedar french doors were delivered today. They look beautiful - just what I imagined them to be like. The old doorway to the bedroom we've converted into the ensuite has been bricked up.
