Demolition Time

Demolition has begun. Our builder started work on site yesterday. He wasted no time removing the wooden deck. Today, all the posts came down and the deck has been removed. All we're left is a few lengths of perma-pine which we will ask him to salvage for us, in the hope of finding some use for them in the future. Sunlight is flooding the kitchen now that the deck has been removed. Everything is bright and harsh in the afternoon sun.

Deck-gone

A nasty surprise awaited use underneath the deck - broken bricks, rocks and lots of poor quality rubble which will have to be removed. Our builder tells us that this will be an additional cost. And so the budget blow-up has already begun even before we have done anything.
