Our handles from Provence arrived today in the mail and they are absolutely beautiful!!! Nous sommes très, très contentes (We are very, very happy)!! I found these wonderful brass handles on eBay. They are solid brass cast handles, with a maker's stamp, from mid to late 20th century. They came from a mas (provençal farmhouse) in Provence.
It is a rather amazing story actually. Hubby had been looking at pictures of French style handles on the internet, trying to find designs or brands that would suit our 5 sets of french doors. He came across a photo of these handles and saved it to his list as he really liked the look of them. It is by pure coincidence that I stumbled upon an eBay seller who had 6 pairs of these exact same handles for sale. Multiple pairs of matching handles are not easy to come by on eBay, not even French eBay.
The eBay seller was very helpful and even offered to purchase mortise locks to go with the handles for us from France. Shipping was very prompt and every item was very well packaged. It was an another amazing find. The price was no different to a Gainsborough or Delf brand handle you get at Bunnings. But the true value of adding something so beautiful, full of history and character to our home? Priceless!!
