Our Chandeliers Have Arrived

After a few hiccups with the postage, our chandeliers have finally arrived from France, and they are just beautiful!!! The photo doesn''t do them justice. They are both made of solid brass and weigh over 10kg each. Like the wall sconces, they will need to be rewired by an electrician. But we are so pleased with them. They are going to look fabulous in our new extension area.
I purchased them off the same eBay seller we got our wall sconces from - Frenchcellar. Laurent was super helpful and very accomodating. He even tried posting the chandeliers from Belgium to help save on postage cost. Unfortunately, the box containing both the chandeliers were too big and the post office refused to accept the package. He ended up posting both the chandeliers in separate boxes through the French colissimo, which ended up costing more, but he chose to pay for the additional cost himself. He's a super ebay seller.
It all began when I saw a pair of lanterns he had for sale on eBay. They were in the Louis XV style and very ornate. I thought they would work wonderfully over the island bench top in our kitchen. We emailed each other a few times to confirm the dimensions of the lanterns as I was worried they might be too small for our purpose. On the night when we finally decided that we were happy with the dimensions, I went to purchase the lanterns with the 'Buy It' option on eBay. Imagine my dismay when I realised that someone had purchase one of the lanterns a couple of hours earlier.

Laurent was very sympathetic when I emailed him back and he offered me the pair of chandeliers instead to make up for the lanterns. I was ecstatic when I received the measurements for the chandeliers and they fit perfectly in our new extension area and would look wonderful together with the wall sconces. So it's all worked out well in the end, although now we are still on the hunt of brass lanterns to go above the island bench in the kitchen. True solid brass french lighting is so difficult to find. A pair or three lanterns will be almost impossible. But we have a few months up our sleeves so I'm hoping we will get lucky somehow.
