The Right Shade Of Grey

We decided to paint the guest room walls grey so that the black chandelier would be a splash of drama in the room. It is also a neutral colour that should go well with the french provincial style bed and bedside tables that we are going to place in the room. People say that finding the perfect shade of white is an impossibly difficult task. Well finding the perfect shade of grey is not far behind.

Who knew that different shades of grey would have either a tinge of blue or a tinge of green in it, and it's virtually impossible to balance both to get a completely neutral grey. And then there's the dilution. Most grey samples you get from the paint store is way too strong for the walls. So we had to buy white paint and make our own dilutions to come up with the right strength. Multiple sample pots of paint and 3 hours later, we finally arrived at what we think is the right shade grey, at the right concentration, for our walls. We barely made it back to Bunnings before they were closed to get the paint we needed for our job. And then it was hours of hard work painting before we finally got the two coats of paint on the walls. We are quite pleased with our efforts.
