Why Pay Retail?

We've adopted this approach with our renos and buying stuff for our renos - 'Why pay retail?' We have found that if you are prepared to spend time looking around and doing the research, and be patient, there are bargains to be had everywhere. You just need to be persistent and keep looking until you find what you want.

A very good example is this waste disposal unit from Franke that hubby found at half price at the Harvey Norman outlet store at 309 South Road, Mile End. Of course Harvey Norman is not going to advertise this on their website, but they do clear out their stock, just like many other retailers. End of model runs, ex-demo units, stock surplus - they have to get rid of the stock. I even saw a few good quality rangehood at the outlet store. If the dimensions and specs were suitable, it would have been a great bargain too! At 50% off, we have no complaints, really!!!!
And then there's the Qasair unit we got for a bargain at Spartan Electrical's annual carpark sale. We have been resarching brands and rangehood models for our new kitchen. Hubby was adamant that he wanted the best we could find.
We do lots of Asian cooking, as that is part of our heritage, and Asian cooking is terribly greasy and smoky. We did not want our new kitchen to be covered in smoke and grease. With the research that we had done, it seemed that Qasair was the best brand for our purposes. Qasair is manufactured in Melbourne, using German motors. The reviews we've looked into have all been positive. The only two negatives are price, and the installation. If the installation is carried out by a licensed Qasair installer, the 3 year warranty then increases to a 5 year warranty. Of course the installation will not be cheap, one would imagine.

So, this made us even more determined to buy our unit at a good price. However, we could not find a quote that we were happy with. The best quote we could get was at Spartan Electrical, at about $200 off the retail price, and that is if we purchased our kitchen sinks and water filter together at the same time. So when I heard on the radio that Spartan Electrical was having their annual carpark sale, we had to check it out. They had 1 Qasair unit on sale, that they were clearing out because it had the old halogen light instead of the new model LED light and we managed to save ourselves about $500 in the process!!!
