French Calling

Gary called to let us know that the commode was ready. We were very excited and rushed down to his store the next day. Brandon joined me during his lunch break. She was beautiful and everything that we had hoped for. But that wasn't all. While he was restoring the piece, Gary found a maker's stamp behind one of the drawers. An ébeniste stamp is how a cabinet maker signs off on each piece that he makes. Our says R. Bacchin. I think we already knew she was a keeper. Our very first piece of French antique furniture. We were super excited!!!

While we were in Gary's store, hubby was immediately taken by a beautiful extendable dining table. It has a wonderful parquetry table top and extends to fit 4 leaves, and graceful cabriole legs. It is a table of wonderful proportions. Gary told us that he can custom-make the 4 extending leaves and stain them to match the table.
We had been thinking about the kind of dining table we needed for our home. On any given day, it's just the two of us, with our dog, Chloe. But for 2 months every year, my parents and my younger sister come to visit and when we have family dinners, there's suddenly six of us, which is not an unreasonable number.
When Christmas comes around, it gets crazy. Our extended family creates an exponential leap in numbers to 14 people. This table is perfect for us!!! We can already imagine wonderful Christmas dinners around the table with family and friends. We paid Gary a deposit so he could start working on the piece and we're super excited at our potential second piece of French antique furniture.
