Let's Do French

It was the end of the financial year and various stores on a street just down the road from us were having huge sales. We decided it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon to take a stroll down the street to check out our local shops.

One of the first stores we walked into was Davenport Interiors. We got to talking to the owner of the store, Gary, and that was the beginning of a wonderful working relationship and friendship.

While I was wandering through Gary's store, I came upon a beautiful 19th century French commode in walnut with a beige marble top and ormolu mounts. I love pretty much everything French but I never thought that beautiful French furniture of such quality could be found in Adelaide, and for a price that I did not expect.

Suddenly. the idea of creating a French-style home seemed possible. We could surround ourselves with the type of things that we love. Maybe we could just pull it off. The thought is very exciting!!! We never thought this would happen to us.

We placed a deposit on the commode and Gary promised to call us as soon as he had finished restoring it so we could come around to see if we would like to commit to purchasing it. I am so excited. Even in its unrestored state, with years and layers of grime, it is still a thing of beauty. We can't wait to see it all polished and waxed up. She will be a thing of beauty and will have pride of place in our bedroom. I am so beyond happy right now I never dreamed that we would actually own a proper French antique!!! I admired them from afar in all the beautiful chateaux that we visited in France but to actually own one?!!! Wow!!!!
